Equalizer (2014)

If you like action thrillers, this is a movie for you.

We see an ordinary man living a peaceful life. He doesn’t have a family or many friends. He knows a young girl, a prostitute, who gets beaten up by her boss, following some incidents. What will the protagonist do in such a situation?

There is a good deal of suspense with the main character, being played by Denzel Washington. The action sequences are worth watching. It is not like you have never seen such stunts; but then too, you will be having goose bumps at times. The scene in the above poster was the one I liked the most.

The drawback mainly lies with the story. There is no plot twists or gripping events happening in the story. What grips you to the seat is; the action. Denzel Washington sees to it that he will be remembered for his performance. There are excellent dialogue deliveries worth remembering, so as to use it some day in your life (may be, to your friends).

Another thing good about the movie is the visuals. Art director, cinematographer and director had done a real good job there. Background music also had a crucial role in creating mood and enhancing the visuals

Overall, not a must watch, but watch it if you like action.

Changeling (2008)

It has happened to me several times and may be to you all, that, you wanted to see a movie for a long time, but haven’t seen it, and when you have finally seen the movie, you were asking yourself, “Man, why didn’t I watch it earlier? What took me so long to watch this?”

Yes. Changeling is definitely one such movie for me.

I knew the theme of the movie much before watching it. So, I had made a mental picture about the plot. Then I started watching it and the first thing that struck me was the wordings at the start of the movie: “A true story”. These words completely changed the viewing experience for me. Everything seemed much more intriguing than it would have felt if I didn’t know that it was a true story. The emotions felt real. I experienced the frustration and helplessness of the protagonist, Christine Collins, played by Angelina Jolie. And right through the middle, I realized my mental picture of the movie was poles apart from the actual plot. A must watch.

Angelina Jolie was exceptional. No wonder she was nominated for the Academy award for best actor in leading role: female. And, only at the end did I see that Changeling was directed by the master himself: Clint Eastwood. In case you didn’t know, he is a monster.

Clint Eastwood is a monster.

Rating: Very close to a 9, on 10

Predestination (2014)

MIND BLOWING…!!!

So, let me get this straight.

The same person was the father AND mother of himself AND herself and he was the one who set himself(father) and herself(mother)up to create herself, then to later kidnap herself(baby) to drop herself at an orphanage to be grown up into 'her'self and later into 'him'self to become a Temporal agent(much later) and then into a criminal bomber(very much later) who led to disfigurement of himself(much earlier) which subtly in turn led to finding himself at the bar to set himself up with herself for the creation of herself/himself.

Did I get it right?

Egg first or chicken first?

Ya.. That's what this is all about..

A paradox.

This is really amazing because Hollywood has this ability to transform nonsensical bizarre themes into ultimate thrillers and that is what is being portrayed by this particular movie. We seem to have an understanding of paradox and they take it to the next level.

You remember this scene in Inception where Cobb asks Ariadne, “How did we end up here?”. Well, good luck finding the beginning of this story.

From the second act and on, unexpected twists and turns unveils and the movie ends with a big "BOOM".

Ethan Hawke. So versatile. Saw a cool father in Boyhood. Saw an entirely different personality, a Temporal agent and a psychopath, in this movie.

Sarah Snook. Never knew she was a “she” until she told it in the movie. Mannerisms just like men.

Directors, writers, cinematography, editing.. The more I appreciate, lesser it is..
